New South East Anglian Section

The LDMCC is gauging interest for a new section, covering the Anglia area between the existing sections in Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire meeting in Bishops Stortford, and the Kent section based in Gillingham. The proposed new section would be based near Ongar, in Essex, and meetings would be held once a month. If you are a member who lives in this area and would like to attend – or are not yet a member, but are interested – please contact Dave Lawrence at law41.ldmcc@yahoo.com The preliminary get-together will be held on 29th September. More details in the current issue of The New Conrod.

DVLA Applications – Please Note

The Club’s registrar, responsible for applications to DVLA for new and age-related application marks, has drawn my attention to the following. In cases where insufficient postage has been paid on material sent to him, it is held by the Post Office for 18 days before being returned to the sender, unless the recipient pays the outstanding charges. The Club cannot accept responsibility for unpaid postage, or for the additional administrative fee which the Post Office charges. Please ensure, then, when sending material to support an application, that it meets the applicable dimensions and weight criteria. The registrar always acknowledges receipt of material, usually by email but otherwise by phone or mail.

Sunshine, Douglases and Maldon

The Maldon Museum of Power’s open day is a regular fixture in the LDMCC calendar, and this year’s show attracted a good turnout – helped, no doubt, by some Summer sunshine! While it’s always nice to see a good turnout of Douglas machines, I am particularly impressed by the after-market anti-theft device sitting in the sidecar of the Dragonfly combination! My thanks to Club Registrar Len Boydell for the photos.

LDMCC Annual Rally 2021

After the disappointment of having to cancel the 2020 Annual Rally, the LDMCC is delighted to announce that this year’s event will take place on the weekend of the 4th/5th September. We hope to see as many of you there as possible! All the usual activities are back – the ride-out, quiz night in the bar, the bike display, fun and games for children, the raffle – and no rally would be complete without concours judging and prizes! Start polishing …

Details of the weekend’s events can be found here and Health and Safety information is here.

Further information will be published in the next issue of the Club’s magazine.

London Douglas Club at Founder’s Day

The VMCC’s Founder’s Day took place over the weekend of the 17th July and was blessed with glorious weather. Steve Cox very kindly arranged a stand for the Club, and we had 10 Douglas bikes on display. On behalf of the Committee, can I say a big thank you to Steve for all his time and effort in arranging the stand and also a big thank you to those Club members who made the effort to turn up on the day with a bike for display. Our post-war spares Secretary David Sheppard travelled all the way from Liskeard in Cornwall, which is a round trip of some 500 miles. That shows real commitment. The stand was busy throughout the day with enquiries from existing club members and other members of the general public. Fortunately, our technical guru, David Richmond, was on hand to provide expert advice.
