Dave Gilbert has sent in this wonderful period photograph of his grandfather taken, he believes, in 1927. The Douglas has a Gloucester County Council registration – does anyone recognise or know anything of the machine, which Dave believes to be an EW 600 Sport.
Very good picture and probably a little earlier than 27 as the spokes are built into the brake drums and has the 25″ beaded edge rims. Of the hundreds of this model made, the spokes falling out when hot from braking soon led to modifying to hub spokes and many recalls. The DD reg was the one used by the works or local agents when selling direct to a customer ready for the road. There are quite a few photos of DD reg’s machines but few with a story like this.

As this bike only has a single downtube frame, I would think it is a 350EW.

Hello Everyone ,
I have recently purchased a set of WW1 medals that I believe to have been awarded to a motorcycle despatch rider ,a comrade of my grandfather .
In the box with the medals is a business card , it states that this chap was the proprietor of ‘Douglas Service Department’, Mornington crescent in London NW1 (19 years factory experience). Its a long shot but I was wondering if anyone knew of this business , any information I would be very grateful for .
best wishes
